Meet our Director
Ian is an ordained minister of the Baptist Union of Queensland. He is married to Margaret and together they have four adult sons and several grandchildren. Ian and Margaret live in Burpengary but travel regularly to country areas for ministry.
After teaching secondary Physics and Maths Ian studied at Sydney Missionary and Bible College before commencing ministry at the end of 1979. His first role was the establishment of a new region for Scripture Union in Central Queensland. He then moved to Canberra where he served as the Director of Scripture Union for seven years while completing further theological study. After one year as a Christian Education Consultant he joined the pastoral team of Belconnen Baptist serving in youth ministry.
Since moving to Queensland in 1992 Ian served as the Maths Coordinator at Mueller College before joining the pastoral team of North Pine Baptist. After a break down in his health he resigned as Senior Pastor in 2001.
Together with his wife Margaret, Ian founded Alongside Ministries in 2004. While serving as Director he has taken on additional part-time roles such as the Field Education Director and part-time lecturer at Malyon College. Ian is a regular speaker on family camps and at church and school conferences. He is a popular preacher at churches of various denominations around Queensland.
Much of Ian’s time is spent mentoring Pastors and Christian workers. He is also takes on consultancy roles with churches and schools and leads training seminars for school and church staff. He is the Baptist Area Coordinator for the Caboolture/Pine Rivers region and serves as an interviewer for the registration of Baptist pastors in Queensland. Recently he completed a staff review for Arethusa College and currently serves two days per week as interim pastor of South Redlands Community Church.
Ian regularly writes magazine articles and is the author of “It Only Hurts When I Laugh” (ANZEA, 1992).
